Festival weddings and Easter Beaches

4/7/2015

Over the Easter long weekend I was lucky enough to be a part of my beautiful cousin's wedding as her bridesmaid. Which meant I had yet another excuse to visit my favourite place in the world. A town called Nungurner on the East Gippsland coast. A town full of adventures for me as a child, as well as now as an adult, exploring the lakes systems and the forests and the beaches. I will always come back here for as long as I live! So I thought I would share with you some photos from the wedding and from my favourite place.

The wedding really was like a three day camping festival. We went around for BBQ and drinks the night before, then wedding on Saturday and the morning after every one piled in for bacon and egg sandwiches.

A special visit from this kookaburra made their wedding truly magical! My cousin and her (now) husband rescued an injured fledgling kookaburra when they were early into their relationship. She was not able to fly, so they raised her until she was strong enough and happy enough to live out her days at a wildlife sanctuary. Kookaburras have become an important symbol of their love, and Jess proposed using a feather. the wedding party all wore kookaburra feathers proudly. So it was really an amazing and remarkable thing, that in the midst of the reception, this beautiful blue winged fellow decided to sit atop the marquee at first, and watch over all of the guests as we waited for the bride and groom to arrive. He later found his position on the corner of the cool room until night fell.

The forecast for the entire long weekend was set for wind and rain, which would not have worked as the wedding planners were hopeful enough not to worry about a plan B! Luckily, mother nature held out until every one was home, safe before she released her almighty downpour. Today, what was once an amazingly set up festival wedding with camping and marquees galore, resembles more of a muddy swamp, not accessible to cars other than 4WD. So thank you mother nature, for adding your stunning weather to this magical weekend. And congratulations to my gorgeous cousin, Jess and her partner for life, Tim.
